Complex Capacity Assessments
AIVUK have a wealth of experience in undertaking complex assessments. This may involve Article 8 considerations, for instance
- Assessing capacity to have contact with someone
- Capacity to engage in sexual relationships
- A reluctance to engage
- Fluctuating capacity
- Being influenced by someone else.
We recognise the importance of, "thinking outside the box" to promote as much support as possible for the person and will encourage engagement and mitigate potential obstacles.
Such assessments may need more time, a greater level of creativity and flexibility. They may involve recommending further measures such as bespoke education or the involvement of a third party such as a speech and language therapist as part of the assessment process.
