Profile:

Emma qualified as a solicitor in 2006 and now practises as a consultant solicitor for a firm in Suffolk as a professional attorney and deputy mainly managing the financial affairs of vulnerable clients and dealing with the Court of Protection or complex LPA work.

Emma is an Independent Visitor for the Court of Protection and Office of the Public Guardian and has been now for over 12 years. She has visited thousands of people, their deputies and families over their time to provide them with information and support in their role as a deputy, and to deal with any concerns or issues which has arisen. Emma has conducted many visits to assess a person's capacity to deal with concerns raised regarding their Attorney's management of their finances or other safeguarding concerns. She has provided many capacity assessments for both the OPG and COP including DOLS assessments.

Emma worked as a Family Carer advocate for over 10 years for Suffolk Family Carers, predominantly providing advocacy support to families of someone with a learning disability. She completed her Advocacy Training and became a qualified Non-Instructed Advocate, NHS Complaint Advocate and IMCA.

During her time at Suffolk Family Carers, she also undertook several Person Centered Training Courses including those run by some of the leaders in Person Centered Practice, Helen Sanderson and Inclusive Solutions. She is a firm believer in person centered practices and enabling people to be as fully involved in their lives as possible.

Emma currently sits on the Management Committee of Essex Carers Network and works closely with other regional charities to promote family carer interests. Emma is now a family carer herself and getting to grips with battling the 'system' as a family carer rather than as a practitioner.

Emma takes a keen interest in all work she is involved with and often thinks holistically or outside the box to ensure the bigger picture is being considered and the client and families needs are met in everyone's best interests.
