Chris is a qualified and experienced former social worker who worked generically earlier in his career but later specialised in the areas of learning disability, mental health and crisis work. He was for many years an Approved Social Worker under the 1983 Mental Health Act. He became a Lord Chancellor’s Visitor in 2004 and continues to work for the Court of Protection and the Office of the Public Guardian as a Court of Protection Visitor since the introduction of the Mental Capacity Act in 2007. Shortly afterwards he was one of the founder members of the Association of Independent Visitors UK in 2008 and after a relocation now covers mainly his local area in Derbyshire.
Over many years he has carried out a range of monitoring visits, mental capacity assessments, consultations and investigations for the OPG, the Court and the Official Solicitor as well as for professional deputies and local authorities. Currently his private work is mainly with solicitors and as well as the above he often provides certificates for Lasting Power of Attorney. He is experienced and knowledgeable when working with potentially vulnerable people in a variety of situations, particularly older people and those with acquired brain injury.
