Sarah has experience in the voluntary sector delivering welfare benefits, housing and social care advice and information, she later developed a countywide service delivering money advice and engaging with a range of partners to promote the service.  With a specific interest in adult safeguarding matters, Sarah completed her Social Work training and has worked for several local authorities since, gaining knowledge and experience across many areas of adult social care.

Sarah has significant experience supporting individuals and their families to navigate the social care system and assessing eligibility for services as per the Care Act 2014. Sarah is very passionate about prioritising the needs of carers and has supported both young and adult carers to access personal budgets and services from social care. Sarah has experience of Continuing Health Care funding and long term care and support planning for older adults with physical disabilities and dementia.

In addition to this, Sarah has worked within substance misuse services, as a Social Work Lead for a charitable organisation. Sarah advised on safeguarding concerns, reviewed safeguarding procedures and championed the principles of the Mental Capacity Act, sharing skills and knowledge around this area of practice.

Sarah currently works in statutory services as a social worker with adults with complex learning disabilities, mental health conditions and physical disabilities. Sarah’s work includes risk management, safeguarding enquiry work and representing adult social care at multi-disciplinary meetings. As safeguarding officer, Sarah has had the opportunity to be involved in a range of safeguarding enquiries; and has worked closely with care providers and regulators to ensure safe and effective care is provided.

Sarah has experience of undertaking Mental Capacity Act assessments and Best Interest decisions as part of her role whilst co-ordinating care and acting as safeguarding adults officer for the local authority.
